Hands
, 2011, drawing/monoprints, 8 x 10 inches each

I hunger. I thirst. I do what I can to meet my needs. As the old saying goes, "God helps those who help themselves." And these large hands (modeled after my own) show me taking responsibility for my life. I do help myself.

Yet my hands are only so big. Sometimes my noblest efforts result in little or no gain, at times even loss. Other times I do the most marvelous things.

Or perhaps these are the hands of a friend, stranger, or even God. In any case I am realizing that we are seldom as independent as we might presume. I am grateful for this mysterious aspect of life, holding me in a (not always pleasant) state of curiosity and wonder.
